Children’s Privacy Notice
Effective October 2, 2026. Written for parents, in plain language.
Reading Adventure Worlds is designed for children about ages 2 to 8, used together with a grown-up. Because young children use it, we follow the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Federal Trade Commission’s COPPA Rule. This notice explains our practices for children’s information.

How the service is set up
- Parents create the account, not children. A parent or guardian signs up with their own email address and password, confirms they are the child’s parent or guardian, agrees to our Terms and Privacy Policy, and confirms their email address. Children never create an account, choose a password or type an email address.
- The parent sets up the reader profile. The parent enters the child’s first name or a nickname and age. We don’t ask for a child’s last name, birthday, photo, voice, address, school or contact details.
- No chat, sharing or public profiles. There is no way for a child to post, message, upload photos or make information public, and the app does not use the camera or microphone.
- No ads or tracking. There is no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking in the app. The only outside service the app loads is Google Fonts, for its lettering.
What we keep about a child, and why
- The first name or nickname and age the parent entered, so the app can greet the reader and suggest a starting point.
- Learning progress: lessons and activities finished, the current lesson, and game, tracing, sticker and reward progress, so the reader can pick up where they left off.
- A sign-in cookie on the family’s device and short-term technical information such as IP address, used only to keep the family signed in and to deliver and secure the service (what COPPA calls “support for internal operations”).
We use this information only to provide Reading Adventure Worlds to your family. We never use it for advertising, never sell it, and never share it with anyone except the service providers that host and run the service for us (such as our hosting and database providers), under obligations to keep it confidential and secure. Your child’s name and age are never sent to Stripe or to Step Up For Students. (If you pay with a scholarship, Step Up shares the student’s name with us as part of the order; we use it only to verify that order.)
Parental consent
The parent provides the reader information directly, after confirming they are the parent or guardian and agreeing to this notice. If we ever add a feature that would collect personal information directly from a child (for example, voice practice), we will first update this notice, give parents a direct notice explaining exactly what would be collected and why, and obtain verifiable parental consent using a method the FTC’s COPPA Rule allows before the feature can be turned on. We will never require a child to share more information than is reasonably necessary for an activity.
Parents’ rights
A parent or legal guardian may at any time:
- review the information we hold about their child (you can download saved progress from Grown-ups in the app);
- change the reader’s name or age;
- ask us to delete their child’s information and the family account; and
- tell us to stop any further collection or use of their child’s information (which ends use of the app for that reader).
Email hello@readingadventureworlds.com from your account email with the subject “Children’s privacy request.” Before sharing or deleting anything, we take reasonable steps to confirm you are the child’s parent or guardian. We aim to respond within 10 business days.
How long we keep it
We keep a reader’s information only while the family account is open and the information is needed to provide the service. When a parent asks us to delete it or close the account, we delete it within 30 days. Our full retention schedule is in Data Retention, Deletion & Security. We protect children’s information with reasonable security measures appropriate to the small amount we hold.
If we learn we collected a child’s information by mistake
If we learn that we received personal information directly from a child without a parent’s involvement, we will delete it promptly. If you believe this has happened, please tell us.
