State Privacy Rights & Do Not Track
Effective October 2, 2026. Written for parents, in plain language.
Several U.S. states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and Oregon, give residents specific privacy rights. Some of these laws apply only to larger businesses, but we offer the core rights below to every family, wherever you live.
Your rights
- Know and access: ask what personal information we have about you and your reader, and get a copy.
- Correct: ask us to fix information that is wrong.
- Delete: ask us to delete your information, subject to legal exceptions.
- Portability: get your information in a usable format (you can also download saved progress from Grown-ups in the app).
- Opt out: of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and profiling. We don’t do any of these.
- No discrimination: we won’t charge you more or treat you differently for using these rights.
How to make a request
Email hello@readingadventureworlds.com with the subject “Privacy rights request.” We will confirm your identity by matching information we already have, such as your account email, and respond within 45 days (or extend once if the law allows, and tell you why). An authorized agent may make a request for you with your signed permission; we may ask you to confirm it.
Appeals. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying with the subject “Appeal.” We’ll answer within the time your state’s law requires. If you’re still not satisfied, you may contact your state attorney general.
California details
In the past 12 months we may have collected these categories of personal information:
- Identifiers, such as email address, account username, IP address and the sign-in cookie, from you and your browser, and the student’s name from Step Up For Students when you place a scholarship order.
- Personal information about a child provided by the parent: a first name or nickname and age.
- Commercial information, such as membership status, payment records (not full card numbers) and scholarship orders.
- Internet activity, limited to learning progress in the app and standard server logs.
We use these only for the purposes in our Privacy Policy, disclose them only to service providers and Step Up For Students as described there, and keep them as described in Data Retention, Deletion & Security. We have not sold or “shared” personal information, including of children under 16, and we don’t use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about anyone. Your account password is sensitive information that we use only to sign you in. Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We don’t track visitors across websites, so a browser “Do Not Track” signal doesn’t change anything here. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a valid opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
Nevada residents
We do not sell covered information as defined by Nevada law.
