Cookie Notice
Effective October 2, 2026. Written for parents, in plain language.
The short version
We use one necessary cookie to keep you signed in. We don’t use analytics, advertising pixels, social media trackers, session recording or device fingerprinting.
The cookie we set
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| raw_session | Keeps your grown-up account signed in so your reader’s progress saves. It holds a random code, not your name or email, and can’t be read by scripts on the page. | Up to 7 days, or until you sign out |
Because this cookie is strictly necessary for signing in, it doesn’t require a separate consent banner. If you block it, you can still browse this website, but you won’t be able to sign in.
Settings saved in your browser
- Session storage: the optional starting-point check keeps a temporary draft of your answers in the open browser tab until you finish or close it.
- Local storage: small preferences, such as whether you paused the moving scenery and app sound settings, stay on your device.
You can clear these at any time in your browser settings.
Services our website connects to
- Google Fonts. Our pages and the app load fonts from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser information. Google describes its practices in its own privacy policy.
- Stripe. If you buy a membership, you complete payment on Stripe’s checkout page, which uses its own cookies for security and fraud prevention under Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Links to other sites. If you follow a link, for example to the Step Up For Students portal, that site’s own cookie policy applies.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because we don’t track you across websites, there is nothing for a “Do Not Track” signal to turn off. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a valid request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information, which we don’t do anyway. See State Privacy Rights & Do Not Track.
If this ever changes
If we add any other cookies or similar tools, we will update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
